Partial Dentures

Partial dentures are suitable for patients who still have some teeth or do not want to make the transition all the way to full dentures.  Partial dentures replace lost or decayed teeth.  An impression is taken of the mouth with a prosthetic in position to create a partial denture mold.  The dentist’s impression of your mouth sets the stage for the creation of a partial denture that is the optimal hue, shape and size of the teeth already in the mouth.  The dentist might also take an impression of the opposing arch to guarantee the tooth fits just right with the teeth opposing those to be extracted or the gaps in the mouth.

Aside from enhancing your smile aesthetic, partial dentures are also helpful in that they prevent alterations to the shape of the face, prevent bone loss and make it easier to chew through food.  The worst-case scenario is leaving unaddressed gaps between teeth that cause teeth to shift toward the open spaces, causing all sorts of oral health havoc in the years ahead.  Opt for partial dentures consisting of a removable plate with attached artificial teeth and you’ll fill in those pesky gaps, creating two full rows of teeth that look and feel surprisingly natural.
